Hello friends,

The other night my kitchen drain clogged up and it was bad and not resolving itself. The symptoms were showing up a few weeks earlier, and I tried some at home remedies….but it wasn’t working.

Of course, when my mom came over for dinner with a shepherd’s pie in the oven, the drain completely clogged up! Sink filled with water. WOW! I never realized how parlaying it is not to have a functional sink.

I must admit I was a little stressed about it. All I could think about was the pile of dishes and my kids who are non-stop eaters! If you have teenagers, you already know — my kitchen is basically a 24/7 restaurant. I can clean up by 8pm, walk back in at 10pm, and someone has opened it up for a second service. The idea of having NO functional sink, with dishes piling up and breakfast looming the next morning….my nervous system was feeling it.

My generous brother came over at 9:30pm to try snaking the drain. Bless him. It didn't work — and instead, grease splattered everywhere. Not exactly the peaceful evening I had in mind. I went to bed past midnight with a dirty kitchen, a non-functional dishwasher stuffed and a body that felt exhausted.

I felt stressed about breakfast the next morning and who could I find the next day to fix it promptly.

As I sat in bed and took time for self awareness, I took a few deep breaths and realized I was in my panic body and it wasn’t necessary. Yes this was a nuisance, but I know there is a solution and it will get fixed.

Then I remembered — surrender.

The good old surrender practice was needed at this moment.

I put my best intention forward.

I opened my bullet list journal and wrote, with full belief:

"My kitchen drain works perfectly and is unclogged easily and effortlessly."

"I love my beautiful kitchen, and my drains are working perfectly."

I wrote it not as wishful thinking, but as intention. Then I closed the book, took a breath, and let it go. I released the outcome. I stopped trying to solve it with my anxious mind at midnight, and I chose rest instead.

The next morning, I reached out to a plumber contact I'd received the night before. By 10am, someone was at my house. Thirty minutes later — completely fixed.

The drain that had consumed hours of my mental energy resolved in half an hour, the moment I stopped fighting and started flowing.

Your Nervous System Always Has a Choice

This is something I come back to again and again, in my own life and in my work with clients: the nervous system doesn't know the difference between a clogged drain and a genuine crisis — unless you teach it.

When we're in stress, we move into fight-or-flight. Our thinking narrows. We catastrophize. We worry. Unfortunately, that state doesn't actually help us solve the problem. It just keeps us suffering longer.

I keep learning again and again, there is another experience to have with challenges.

Deep breathing. Intentional thought. Writing down what we want, not what we fear. Choosing to rest when rest is what's actually needed. These aren't small things — they are the practice.

I keep learning deeper surrender is available in every single moment. In the big crises and also in the clogged drains, the missed emails, the things that go sideways on a Tuesday night. I remind myself, I get to choose another experience.

Come Reset with Me This Wednesday

Speaking of coming back to the body and releasing what we're holding — I would love for you to join me for my upcoming:

60-Minute Online Energy & Sound Healing Class - Rest & Restore

This class is a space to do exactly what we talked about above — to slow down, breathe, and let your nervous system remember what safety feels like. Through intentional energy work and the power of sound healing, we'll gently release the tension and stress that accumulates in our bodies from everyday life.

Sound healing works on a cellular level, helping to shift stuck energy, quiet the mind, and restore a sense of ease. Whether you've been carrying something heavy or you simply need a reset, this class meets you exactly where you are.

"You don't have to fix everything. Sometimes you just need to soften, breathe, and let the healing find you."
