- It's all just a dream - waking up.
It's all just a dream - waking up.
How to become “lucid” in your own life-dream.
Is This The Dream?
Do you ever wonder…
Which is truly the dream?
The one behind closed eyes,
streaming by the subconscious—
or this one, where we wake up, go about our lives,
and call it real?
This question has been on my heart for some time.
Recently a dear friend of mine passed away. His soul transitioned during the powerful March solar eclipse in Pisces. We met at a Dr Joe Dispenza retreat in 2022 and our friendship grew very close over a couple of years. Even though he lived in California, we shared audio messages almost daily. We explored so many topics—spirituality, Dr. Joe’s work, living in 5D, aliens, and the ups and downs of being a single parent.
After I found out of his passing, the grief set in stronger and stronger with each passing day. Eventually, I found myself reaching for his words and messages—
Dave’s deep wisdom about the ego, the illusions we cling to, and what truly matters.
He was a devoted student of A Course in Miracles,
and as I revisited the messages he once shared with me,
the weight of grief began to soften.
Sadness gave way to stillness.
Loss made space for remembering that he is always love and peace.
One of the things Dave started saying often in his messages to me towards the end of 2024, …”it’s all just a dream”, “we are waking up in the dream”.
The 3D World as a "Dream" or Illusion (Maya)
In many spiritual traditions—Hinduism, Buddhism, and mystical teachings—
our waking reality is known as Maya: the great illusion.
The Maya is our physical reality what we see, touch and feel.
We believe in solid ground, materialism, in time, in separation.
But what if none of that is truly fixed?
What if we’re not waking from a dream…
but waking within one?
Just as a dream feels real while we are in it, our waking reality feels solid and permanent - yet both are created from the mind.
It doesn’t mean it’s “not real,” but that it’s not the ultimate reality.
It’s like a dream your soul is having. A vivid, sensory, emotional experience… but one that’s shaped by perception, programming, beliefs, and energetic patterns.
“It’s all just a dream,” is acknowledging that this life—this 3D simulation—is not the entirety of who we are.
We are:
Consciousness
Energy
Divine awareness
...playing inside a temporary avatar (Sylvie), having lessons, experiencing contrast and forever evolving.
From the ancient perspective, our waking consciousness is indeed dreamlike - not in the sense of being fantasy, but in being a limited and distorted perception of what is truly real. This doesn’t mean you are suppose to withdraw from the world, but rather engage in it from an alternative perspective - participating in the dream / life while knowing its true nature. Ultimately, knowing we are effortless beings in the reality.
In Dave’s own quest to innerstand himself better and these teachings, he would often share with me some of the daily lessons from the Course;
A Course in Miracles frequently addresses the concept of waking up from the dream of separation, emphasizing that our perceived reality is an illusion, and true awakening involves recognizing our unity with God/Divine with all that is.
The Simulation Perspective
Do you ever wonder if you are living in a simulation?
You’ve been experiencing things within your life that just don’t make sense. If feels as if there has to be something bigger, something else that is controlling everything, and maybe it’s coming from within you.
If you resonate with the idea that you are living in a simulation. The 3D simulation—that our reality is like a programmable experience—it reinforces the dream metaphor.
In this view:
Your beliefs shape your reality (like a lucid dream)
Time is fluid
Your subconscious is the main projector
External “reality” is a mirror of your inner world
So… “It’s all just a dream” reminds us that we’re co-creating this hologram, not just victims of it. We can reprogram it. We can wake up inside of it.
Awakening = Lucid Dreaming
When you wake up spiritually, it’s like becoming lucid in a dream:
You realize you don’t have to follow the scripts of fear, shame, or lack
You start to choose with intention and attention, instead of reacting from old habits
You reclaim your power to create from love, abundance, and alignment
So saying “it’s all just a dream” is actually an invitation to live more consciously—because you realize this reality is more malleable and magical than we’re taught.
🕊️Soul Perspective
From the soul’s view, this life is a chapter in a much larger story.
When you dream at night, it feels real until you wake up.
In the same way, this life feels “real”… until you transition or awaken more deeply. Then you realize it was one layer of awareness, one experience your soul chose to grow, heal, and remember its own divinity.
“Waking Up” Within the Dream
Recognition: realize that what we take to be solid reality may be more dreamlike than we think.
Mindful awareness: Meditation allows one to notice the mind - how thoughts, emotions and perceptions arise and pass away.
Witnessing consciousness: with practice there is an awareness of the mind without being fully identified with it.
Non-dual awareness: Eventually, there are moments when one sees the dissolution between the observer and the observed. One experiences reality as a unified field—unity consciousness.
Liberation: Seeing through the illusion completely. Or just being free in circumstances that before held you enslaved to your mind.
💎 In Practice, This Means:
You can let go of taking things so personally or seriously
You’re not trapped—you’re dreaming, and you can shift the dream
You get to ask: What kind of dream do I want to dream next?
Healing, manifestation, and transformation are not only possible—they’re natural inside this dream.
It doesn’t mean the world isn’t "real" in a functional sense, but rather that what we perceive is not the ultimate reality. It’s a projection, a temporary experience shaped by our senses, thoughts, and conditioned beliefs.
Lucid Dream Journaling: Waking Up Inside Your Life
🌀 Step 1: Drop In
Take 3 deep breaths. With each inhale, imagine you're returning to yourself.
With each exhale, release any illusion that says you're small, stuck, or powerless.
Now close your eyes and imagine:
What if none of this was fixed? What if it’s all just a dream… and I’m the one dreaming it?
When you feel ready, start journaling:
✨ Prompt 1: "If this is just a dream… what kind of dream am I currently dreaming?"
Write freely. What is your current life reflecting back to you? What beliefs, patterns, emotions are shaping this dreamscape?
✨ Prompt 2: "In this dream, what have I forgotten about myself?"
Let your soul speak. Maybe you've forgotten you're already whole. Or that you're powerful. Or worthy of ease, joy, connection.
✨ Prompt 3: "If I became lucid right now—what would I choose differently?"
This is your lucid dreamer's power speaking. Let it flow:
What would I stop doing?
What would I stop complaining about?
Who would I choose to be?
What would I say yes to?
How would I move through the world?
✨ Prompt 4: "What kind of dream do I want to live next?"
Don’t be realistic. Be soulful. What feels expansive? Joyful? Peaceful? Write about the dream your heart truly wants to live.
✨ Prompt 5: "What’s one small action I can take this week to shift into that dream?"
It could be internal (repeating “I am the effortless being”) or external (changing a habit, responding differently to repeating circumstances, speaking a truth).
🌟 Integration Ritual
Write a dream affirmation from your journaling (e.g. “I am dreaming a life of beauty, ease, and expansion.”)
Say it aloud each morning for 7 days.
Imagine yourself waking up more deeply into your dream each time you say it.
I am dreaming a life of beauty, ease and expansion.
Let me know if this resonates with you!
Thanks for reading and for being a participate in my dream 😁
