5 Keys to a Grounded Meditation Practice 🧘‍♀️

The 5 Essentials of a Meditation Practice

So many of my clients lately have been sharing the same thing:
They want to start a meditation practice…
But they don’t have time or feel overwhelmed by the idea of sitting still.
Or they believe they can’t do it because they “can’t turn off their mind.”

Let me reassure you — you’re not alone.
And more importantly, meditation isn’t about turning off your mind.
It’s about learning how to be with yourself in a new way — gently, without pressure, without needing to fix or change anything.

Meditation is often misunderstood as a quest to quiet the mind. But true meditation is about becoming present to yourself — exactly as you are. It's a devotion to your inner world. A way to regulate your nervous system, reclaim your energy, and remember who you are beneath the noise.

Whether you're new to meditation or returning to it, these 5 elements can bring depth, softness, and clarity to your practice:

🌿 The 5 Key Elements of a Grounded Meditation Practice

1. Intention
Start with a clear, intention from your heart. Place your hand on your heart, close your eyes, take a few breaths, and allow what comes up to be your intention. Are you here to soothe your nervous system? Feel your body? Receive insight? Or maybe - “I’m allowing myself to be”.

2. Presence Over Perfection
Your mind will wander — that’s not failure, it’s feedback. Simply return to the present moment with compassion and awareness. See the thoughts float by like clouds. The practice is presence, not performance.

3. Consistency Over Duration
It’s not about meditating for 30 minutes once a week. It’s about showing up daily, even for 5 minutes. You're creating safety and rhythm in your nervous system.

4. Sensory Anchors
Breath. Sound. Sensation. Use them as anchors to bring you into your body. This is where real transformation begins — not in thought, but in felt experience.

5. Integration
After your meditation, take a moment to reflect:

“What did I feel? What does my body need now?”
This is where awareness becomes embodied wisdom.

A Simple Practice to Get Started

Try this 10-minute embodied meditation:

  1. Settle into your meditation space and take three deep breaths

  2. Scan your body from head to toe, noticing any areas of tension or sensation

  3. Breathe into those areas with love and compassion.

  4. Ask your body: "What do you need right now?"

  5. Listen without trying to figure anything out. Stay here for a few minutes

  6. Close by placing your hands on your heart and expressing gratitude

Making It Your Own

Remember, meditation is deeply personal. Some days you might need movement meditation, other days complete stillness. Some seasons call for more structured practice, others for more intuitive flow. Trust yourself to know what serves you.

The goal isn't to become a "perfect meditator"—it's to become more present, more embodied, and more aligned with who you truly are.
